This was confirmed in a statement issued in Tamale on Friday by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Mohammed Yusif Tanko, Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command.

The statement said “Police in the region are on a manhunt for about seven others who are on the run with their booty and messages have been sent to all Police stations while the public is also entreated to be on the lookout for said suspects.”

It said “Primary investigation disclosed that yesterday 28/03/19 about 1105 hours, a distressed call was received to the effect that some armed men about seven, two of them wielding AK47 assault rifles and the others with various weapons including single barrelled guns had blocked Salaga- Makango road at a spot near Klinklin village.

The statement added that “Those passengers on board about six vehicles were robbed of an unspecified amount of money together with other valuables. On receipt of the report a patrol team proceeded to the scene of crimes.”

The statement said “Whiles on their way to the scene almost all the alleged robbery victims were met on the way and were assisted to lodge their official complaints at Salaga Police Station.”

It said “After enquiries at the scene the team proceeded to Makango Police Station where one Mohammed Adam, aged 24 was handed over to the police on allegations that when the information of the robbery attack was received, the suspect was overheard by a witness directing some persons on phone suspected of being his accomplices in the robbery to quickly get to a secure place because he had already gotten a ticket to board ferry to Yeji and stated that Police are on a manhunt for them.”

It said “Based on the call, some Police personnel on board the ferry were informed and immediately effected the suspect’s arrest to assist in investigations.”

It entreated the public to volunteer information on the robbers and their hideout to aid investigations.
