The Argentinian prosecutor found dead in his apartment last month under mysterious circumstances had plans to file a petition for the arrest of President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, the Justice Ministry confirmed Tuesday.

Alberto Nisman had been probing the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires, which claimed 85 lives, when authorities found him dead in his apartment of a gunshot wound to the head on January 18.

Nisman had formally accused Fernandez de Kirchner and other government officials with a cover-up of Iran’s alleged involvement in the attack. His death came one day before he was expected to testify before parliament about his accusations against the president and her aides.

Local newspaper Clarin reported on Sunday that police had found a draft document – dated June 2014 and found in a trash can in Nisman’s flat – seeking the arrest of Fernandez de Kirchner in connection with Jewish centre attack.

The prosecution said on Monday in a press release that the document did not exist, but Prosecutor Viviana Fein, who is in charge of investigating Nisman’s death, acknowledged a communication failure through “involuntary error” when the document was confirmed to exist.
