Africans Rising, a Pan-African movement committed to peace, justice and dignity of the people, is spearheading regional consultations to discuss issues impeding the continent’s advancement.
“These consultations are important opportunities for us to engage with grassroots movements and build solidarity among Africans concerned about the health and wellbeing of their local and Pan-African communities.
“They are platforms for our members to showcase their activism work on issues of gender, justice, climate change, good governance, equity and dignity, and civic space,” a statement issued by the Africans Rising, signed by Ms. Ann Njiagi, the Media Consultant, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Kumasi, noted.
According to the statement, the engagements are in preparation for this year’s ‘All-African Movement Assembly’, a programme scheduled for August 29-31, in Arusha, Tanzania.
The Assembly is projected to host over 750 representatives of movements from the African continent and the Diaspora, with at least one delegate from each country on the continent, and targeting mainly the youth and women.
Africans Rising explains that the concept is to foster an Africa-wide solidarity and unity of purpose amongst the people “to build the future we want – a right to peace, social inclusion and shared prosperity for all Africans everywhere.”
The statement indicated that the regional consultations were being held at a time when insecurity had intensified across Africa and with rampant corruption on the rise, amongst other pressing societal needs.
“We want to hear from our members across Africa about how they are standing up to meet the needs and challenges of their communities in the present day,” the Pan-Africanist movement observed.
The statement said submissions from the various consultations would be drafted and shared at the All-African Movement Assembly, which is also designed to render accountability for the mandate bestowed upon Africans Rising for the past six years.
The Assembly will discuss and strategise the movement’s commitment to the mandate for the next five to ten years.
It envisaged to afford African movements, both at home and in the Diaspora, the opportunity to reconnect, ask deep questions about the continent’s current situation, take stock and re-strategise on the way forward.
