ACP Awuni Angwubutoge
The Greater Accra Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has served notice it will not continue to work with the National Commander of the Police MTTU, ACP Angwubutuge Awuni and wants to see him removed or transferred.
This is in reaction to an alleged manhandling of NDC MP for Osu Korle Klottey and immediate past Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Armah Ashitey.
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling party, Ade Coker, who served the notice at a press conference in Accra on Friday, stated that ACP Awuni acted unprofessionally and ought to be shown the exit from the Greater Accra Region.
“The police officer, Awuni, acted unprofessionally and we feel that coming from a policeman and using that kind of language is inappropriate and we in the region are calling for a probe on Awuni and possibly we are calling for his removal from the Greater Accra Region because we cannot work with him,” Mr. Coker stated.
He added: “Awuni is my very good friend, but I was dumbfounded that as a policeman for a former Regional Minister and a former chairman of REGSEC, if you have any problem, the best thing is to tap his shoulder and say come to my office.”
Commenting on the assault of the NPP parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma South and an aide to the NPP flagbearer by suspected NDC thugs, Mr. Coker said although it is regrettable, Ursula Owusu’s actions were equally unpardonable.
“It is regrettable that she was manhandled, but we feel as a region that the action and inaction of Ursula Owusu who thinks the whole Ghana belongs to her is the cause of this problem,” he remarked.
He said it is Madam Owusu’s trademark to provoke NDC supporters whenever she comes around the registration centers.
