The Stop Coronavirus Ghana Coalition, in partnership with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Jeanie JQ, has launched the “Rock Your Mask: It’s a Must” Campaign to promote the need for Ghanaians to wear facemasks, amid COVID-19.
The Campaign is aimed at raising awareness and encouraging the wearing of face masks by all to help reduce the spread of COVID 19.
It is being promoted through various creative and innovative online and offline activities to ensure the communication connects well with the public, Mr Stephen Gyasi-Kwaw, Campaign Coordinator, Stop Coronavirus Ghana, has said.
He said the initiative would also involve the distribution of free locally manufactured non-medical fabric facial masks to the vulnerable in various communities and organisations.
Ghanaian celebrities such as Bella Mundi, Lydia Forson, Reggie Rockstone, Dentaa Amoateng (MBE), Van Vicker, Funny Face among others have already lent their voluntary support to drive the campaign, Mr Gyasi-Kwaw stated.
He said research had shown significant reduction in the spread of the virus in some COVID-19 affected countries in Asia and Europe, where the whole population wore homemade masks.
“It served as a barrier between infected and uninfected people from breathing in the virus readily-Clearly-I protect you, you protect me.”
Meanwhile, over 2000 pieces of the locally produced face masks have been distributed to the vulnerable in various communities and organisations by the Stop Coronavirus Campaigners in partnership Jeanie JQ, a fashion accessory brand led by Jeanette Quashie.
The campaign, is therefore, expected to enhance the efforts of the distribution of the free masks to the vulnerable and promote the use of face masks.
“We call on corporate, religious, traditional leaders and other celebrities to help drive the “ROCK YOUR MASK : IT’S A MUST “campaign to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana”, Mr Gyasi-Kwaw said.
