Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, wife of the Vice President, has urged children in various orphanages to learn, work hard and give maximum respect to their caregivers.
She invoked divine blessings on children and their adopted parents and caregivers, with best wishes to carry out their activities.
?May God bless all the caregivers,? Mrs Amissah-Arthur said, adding that the help of the care-givers to the poor and the less privileged in society were for a better future.
Mrs Amissah-Arthur gave the advice and commendation at the weekend during a visit to Kinder Paradise, an orphanage at Prampram, in the Dangme East District of the Greater Accra Region.
Kinder Paradise, meaning Children?s Paradise in the German is a Christian charitable institution, which cares for impoverished, marginalized, socially neglected and children deprived of their rights.
Mrs Amissah-Arthur, a friend to Kinder Paradise for the past four years, said it had been her practice to visit the orphanage at least twice in a year, and called on Ghanaians to come on board and help children in orphanages.
Interacting with the children, Mrs Amissah-Arthur commended the caregivers for going out of their way, with often inadequate resources to cater for the less privileged in society.
She donated food items ? bags of rice, cooking oil, candies, drinks, as well as some educational materials such as pens, pencils, and exercise books to support the children.
She used the occasion to wish the children and the staff a prosperous year, and God?s blessings.
Madam Silke Roesner, Director of Kinder Paradise, said it was her greatest wish to see the children grow up to become independent, self-confident and responsible members of their communities.
However, she noted that this could only come about if society gave less privileged children opportunities, and thus called on organizations, individuals and the Government to come to the aid of orphanages and other similar homes.
Kinder Paradise was established in October, 1998, as an orphanage. It has 74 inmates ? 29 girls and 45 boys ? who are being provided with education from nursery to junior high school levels. GNA
