In this regard, all the sub-Metropolitan District Council administrators have been tasked to plan and roll out the training of the unit committee members before the end of the year.
Madam Charlotte Otuwa Odum, Metropolitan Chief Executive, who announced this during the Second Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Seventh Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly meeting in Sekondi said the STMA was also in the process of engaging communities in the metropolis to establish the necessary rapport between the assembly and the communities.
She said the community engagement would also ensure the sharing of ideas on development issues as well as identify the concerns of the communities.
The MCE said the assembly was also in the process of reviewing its by-laws adding that the assembly has procured the services of a consultancy firm that is working on the document which would soon come up with a draft report.
Touching on some development projects in the Metropolis, Madam Odum said a total of 66 development projects including classroom blocks , road, transport terminals , libraries, street lights and toilet facilities under different sources of funding are being executed in the area, and that under Urban Development Grant (UDG) 11 projects have been completed and handed over for use.
She said 22 projects have been completed under the GET fund whiles 14 projects were executed under the District Assembly Common Fund(DACF), with nine projects being completed under the Internally Generated Funds(IGF) with five each going for the Ghana Urban management Pilot Project(GUMPP) and District Development Facility (DDF).
On Financial Performance the MCE said the Assembly’s performance in the IGF collection was praiseworthy and that the Assembly has been able to collect GHC 5, 019,240.93 out of an annual target of GHC6, 149,522.00 as at the end of July 2016 representing 81.66 percent.
She said during the same period last year the assembly collected GHC 3,956,088.97 out of an estimated total IGF of GHC 5,187,124.00 representing 76.27 percent.
On Education the MCE, said the Metropolis this year registered 7,681 candidates for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECCE) whiles 6,796 were registered for the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
On Agriculture She said the government’s fertilizer Subsidy programme was on-going and a farmer was entitled to a maximum of 15 bags and that the E-agriculture policy was also yielding results of which a total of 1,244 farmers have been registered onto the platform which has enabled them to access agriculture extension services with the aid of their mobile phones.
Madam Odum said the assembly also took delivery of 63 outboard motors through a subsidized package from the Fisheries Ministry and distributed to fishermen in the Metropolis.
The MCE said under the assembly’s waste management and sanitation programme a total of 2,599 household have been registered for the door-door waste collection under the” Stanley Owusu project”, whiles Zoomlion Ghana Limited has moved from 1,973 to 2,682 registered household. With Vermark company moving from 3,700 to 4,150.
