Tanzania recorded a slight drop in its annual headline inflation rate for May, the east African nation’s statistics watchdog said on Monday.

Ruth Minja, acting Director of Population Census and Social Statistics from National Bureau of Statistics, said the annual headline inflation rate for May decreased to 3.2 percent from 3.3 percent recorded in April.

The decrease in inflation rate was attributed to a decrease in prices of commodities, Minja told a news conference in the capital Dodoma.

Minja said food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation rate for May decreased to 4.4 percent from 4.6 percent recorded in April.

She added that annual inflation rate for food consumed at home and away from home for May remained at 5.2 percent as it was recorded in April. Enditem
