TSA`s technical director Marcelino Ngalioma

Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) has pushed back the time trials for swimmers who are expected to represent the country at the continental championship slated for Maputo later in April.

TSA initially planned that the time trials be held on Saturday at Heaven of Peace Academy (HOPAC).

TSA’s technical director Marcelino Ngalioma said the trials will be held during the Southern Sun championship to be held at International School of Tanganyika (IST) Upanga camps.

Ngalioma declined to give reasons for the postponement of the trials.

He said the trials will be in the groups of swimmers with age ranges from 12 to 17 and under.

The   continental championship for zones three and four is expected to be staged for four days from April 25 in Maputo as Tanzania plans to send 20 competitors.

Ngalioma said the tournament will be used as a stage to ascertain the competence of swimmers who are currently preparing for the 2012 London Olympics.

He also said the next week’s event will give his association the opportunity to identify young swimmers who can represent the country at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2015 All Africa Games and 2016 Olympics.

The TSA director remains upbeat to send the team to Maputo as compensation to miss another tournament of similar magnitude held in Botswana due to lack of funds.
