Two killed for allegedly planning violence in DR Congo

Two women were burnt to death on Wednesday by protesters who suspected them of planning violence in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), witnesses have said.

The victims were travellers on a minibus, which was intercepted by motorcyclists in Butembo in North Kivu province.

“The motorcyclists who were searching vehicles entering Butembo, detained the people in this particular vehicle, accusing them of coming to the town to create insecurity in Beni and Lubero territories,” witnesses affirmed.

“Security forces shot in the air to disperse the protesters but unfortunately the two women had already been burnt to death,” they added.

The incident came just after the recent massacre of about 50 people in Beni territory by Ugandan rebel group, Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), and non-locals entering the region are sometimes suspected as being members of ADF. Enditem
