The Ugandan police on Monday said it is conducting a nationwide registration of commercial motorcycle riders for purposes of policing and curbing crime.
Fred Enanga, police spokesperson told reporters here that the registration of the cyclists commonly known as Boda-boda is part of the force’s security enhancing mechanism to curb crime.
“This measure will make it easier to police the boda boda sector given the rise in crime. It will help promote public safety, accessibility, matters relevant to the enforcement of the legislation and environmental protection,” said Enanga.
The exercise follows a June 2018 directive by President Yoweri Museveni for all Boda-boda cyclists to be registered to curb spates of murder and kidnappings in the east African country. Enditem
