Huawei's growth has been helped by strong demand for smartphones in China

Huawei Technologies Zimbabwe on Monday held a ceremony to launch the National ICT Competition 2019-2020 and sign MOU with 6 universities in Zimbabwe.

The launch ceremony was attended by officials from Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Courier Services, Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Information and Publicity Development, and vice chancellors and representatives from 11 Zimbabwe universities and representatives of ICT private companies.

At the ceremony, First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, represented by the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Courier Services Jenfan Muswere, commended Huawei Technologies, saying she would like to express gratitude to the company for its commitment in promoting ICT development and training of the youth in ICT in Zimbabwe.

The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Amon Murwira, represented by the Director for High Education Programmers, Martha Muguti, said “We look forward to a new relationship and partnership between Higher Education institutions and Huawei that will foster ICT for inclusive sustainable national development in Zimbabwe.”

Jason Shao, Managing Director of Huawei Technologies Zimbabwe, said, “Huawei will continue to invest in this collaboration with universities.”

Huawei launched its global ICT competition in 2015, and Zimbabwe joined it in 2019. Enditem
