IT has now been confirmed that three top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have signalled their intention to contest the gubernatorial primaries for the selection of the party?s candidate for the 2015 governorship election.
State Governor, Babangida Aliyu made the disclosure himself in Minna when he received a delegation of the PDP from Wushishi Local Government Area of the State who paid him a solidarity visit at Government House.
Aliyu named those who have informed him of their decision to contest the seat he will be vacating in May 2015 as his Deputy Alhaji Ahmed Musa Ibeto, the Commissioner for Works Alhaji Muazu Bawa and the Chairman of the Wushishsi LGA Alhaji Saidu Abuabakar Wushishi.
The PDP under its zoning arrangement for the sharing of political positions since 1998 has zoned the governorship of the State to the Niger North Senatorial districts after the seat had been occupied by those from Niger East and Niger South zones.
Aliyu said he told the aspirants to continuously pray for success and that they should not embark on any unorthodox means to realise their dreams.
According to him: “Three people told me they want to contest for the governorship seat in 2015, I told them that if they lose they should not embark on unorthodox means against any one that wins or themselves”.
Aliyu told the delegation led by the Chairman of the PDP in Wushishi LGA which also included all councillors and members of the executive that he has not anointed anyone for the position of Governor saying that justice equity and fair play will be adopted in picking a governorship candidate.
He said: “Niger State PDP is one and anyone who attempted to rock the boat will be treated as an outcast.”
Governor Aliyu said what the G7 Governors are demanding from the National leadership of the party is democratization of the party where everybody will have a say not where individuals will dictate the pace in the party.
He said the PDP in the state is one and is intact adding that ?we will deliver the state to PDP in 2015?.
Earlier, the PDP Chairman in Wushishi LGA of the State Salihu Usman Kwata had told the Governor had disowned one Nura Imam who made a statement on Voice of Nigeria that some of the former Chairmen of the PDP in the State are loyal to the Bamanga Tukur led PDP.
“Nura Imam spoke for himself and himself alone, he is a nobody in the politics of Wushishi,” he added.
The delegation had also paid a solidarity visit on the State Chairman of the party Alhaji Abdulrahaman Enagi where they passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the party and the Government of Niger State.
“The Government of Babangida Aliyu is working the state is progressing we are solidly behind the administration but we should be vigilant because of the enemies within,” Kwata said.
