Report by the National Communications Authority indicates Vodafone customer base is fast growing ahead of its other five competitors in the telecommunications industry in Ghana.
Vodafone Ghana, which was adjudged the 2013 CIMG best marketing oriented company, had its subscriber base shot up from 5,856,090 to 5,931,923 at the end of November last year.
Though Tigo also had it subscriber base increase to 4,014,487, representing 14.51 percent of the market share at the end of the review month, Vodafone with 21.44 percent of the total market share maintains the second spot after market leader, MTN.
Bottom of the league table, Expresso, also made a slight gain bringing its market share to 0.52%.
Other networks, including market leader, MTN, Airtel and Glo all lost subscribers at the end of the review month.
Whiles the leading mobile operator in Ghana, MTN lost over 20, 000 of its 12, 731, 772; Airtel?s subscriber base also reduced by 14, 147 from 3, 347, 173 to 3, 333, 126.
The NCA?s report which also covered subscriber base for mobile voice telephony in Ghana as at the end of November 2013 revealed that Glo?s market base share from October last year decreased from 5.72 percent to 5.53 percent as at end of November 2013, with a subscriber base of 1, 529, 304.
However, Vodafone?s subscriber base increased from 5,856,090 to 5,931,923 at the end of November 2013, representing 21.44 percent of the total market share. Expresso also maintained a market share of 0.52 percent with its subscriber base increasing from 145,057 to 147,731 as at the end of November, 2013.
According to the report, the subscriber base for mobile voice telephony showed a growth rate of 0.3 percent from 27,591,722 subscribers recorded in October to 27,665,572 as at the end of November, 2013.
On data subscribership, it said there was a decline of 1 percent at the end of November, 2013 from a collective total subscribership figure of 9,860,019 at the end of October to 9,763581 ending November, 2013.
The report added that the overall penetration rate in the country decreased from 37.9 percent to 37.4 percent as at the end of November, 2013.
