The Cape Coast municipality was a scene to behold when the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) stormed the Central regional capital on Sunday, 3rd June, 2012 to launch the first phase of its community-based campaign in the ancient coastal town.

Residents, according to a press release, signed by the Communications Director of the party, Richmond Keelson, were upbeat about the success of the party in the 2012 polls.

“At the Kotokoraba Market area, the joy of the traders and shop keepers was infectious as people poured into the street to give encouragement to the party. The common expression heard during the procession through the town was ‘this year we will vote for the PPP,’” the release said.

According to the release, the PPP proceeded to Cape Coast following an impressive and successful launch of the party’s 2012 parliamentary and presidential campaigns in Elmina in the Central Region on Saturday.

“At Cape Coast, the party’s procession with three brass bands and Asafo groups from the Robert Mensah Stadium to the Ato Austin Gardens near the Cape Coast Castle was a wonderful sight to behold.”

The flag bearer of the party, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom explained to the gathering the visions and policies of the party which he entreated party members to spread in their various constituencies.

“[The PPP] is committed to eradicating corruption, tribalism, preventable diseases such as malaria, cholera and free, job creation and compulsory and continuous education from kindergarten to senior high school.

…We are also affirming the party’s determination to be disciplined, show respect to all and only talk about what the PPP can do to transform Ghana into a prosperous country,” he said.

According to Dr Nduom, he would contribute his quota towards the maximization of the tourism potential of the city and also contribute towards an establishment of an airport in the ancient capital of Ghana.

“The PPP’s presidential candidate, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, pledged to use his experience in the hotel industry to improve the tourism prospects of Cape Coast and the entire Central Region in order to create jobs for the many unemployed youth. He said that it is about time that an airport is situated in the Cape Coast area to improve the industry.”

“He told the excited supporters that he is the best candidate out of the three serious contenders for the presidency this year saying that ‘Adze papa wo fie a oye’. He asked the party’s supporters to work very hard to send many PPP candidates to Parliament to fight to enact legislation that will throw government’s weight behind the Ghanaian private sector.”

Speaker after speaker at the regional rally encouraged the Cape Coast Constituency to vote for the PPP and its Parliamentary candidate for the constituency who was introduced at the rally to the constituents by the party’s Presidential candidate.

The PPP parliamentary candidate for Cape Coast, Mrs Sarah Ewuresi Bucknor, thanked her family, friends and the members of the party for their support and encouragement and announced her preparedness to engage in a vigorous campaign to win the Cape Coast seat and go to Parliament come January 2013.

“She was concerned about the education of the children and job creation. She pledged to dedicate her campaign to the many mothers, ‘Abaatan’ who are struggling to educate their children and raise them up to become responsible adults in the difficult environment we find ourselves in.”
