The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) intends to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Katanga Federation du Enterprise of Congo (FEK), according to a statement released by the investment agency.

Zambia mapPatrick Chisanga, the director-general of the investment agency, said the signing of the memorandum of understanding will enhance trade and spur economic development between the two countries.

The official, in remarks made when he led a trade mission to the DRC province, said the investment agency is undertaking an aggressive strategy in supporting non-traditional exports to the DRC and other countries in the sub region.

The official has since urged Zambian businesses to recognize the growing DRC market and take advantage of the arm relations between the two countries to enhance trade.

“The ZDA will always be there to support the private sector at every step in order to increase their production and value addition,” he said in a statement posted on the investment agency’s Facebook page.

The official said the investment agency wanted the volumes of non-traditional exports into the DRC to increase from 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2013 and 800 million dollars in 2014 to about 2.5 billion dollars in 2016. Enditem
