The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has served notice Ghanaians will begin to experience blackout after minimising its impact during the Christmas festivities.
Ghana has been grappling with erratic power supply in most parts of 2014 due to shortfall in gas supply from Nigeria in the West Africa Gas Pipeline as well as low level of water in the Akosombo Dam among other technical hitches.
As a result of the break for the Yuletide, factories ? large consumers of power ? were also on recess hence domestic consumers were spared the irksome power cuts for over a week.
Some areas in Accra have started complaining already after experiencing some blackouts again, but GRIDCo said the load shedding time table is back since large scale consumption has resumed with companies officially resuming work for the New Year from January 5.
According to the Assistant Manager of System Control Centre of GRIDCo, Frank Otchere, Ghanaians will, however, witness ?gradual reduction? in light outs, but ?immediately, we are experiencing the load shedding.?
He told Accra-based Citi FM, ?it?s going to be something of this sort, we don?t expect it to be bad but month on month, as new generation comes in, we are going to expect that it?s going to help us ease.?
?A power plant can take up to somewhere like three years actually to complete and install. But these are expeditious efforts that are being put in and that is going to see some of these plants come in within three to five months,? Otchere added.
He said within the next two to five months there will be a significant improvement in the load shedding.
