It?s official, Gabon has decided to take the matter to the French courts. ?Nouvelle Affaires Africaine? has taken Gabon by storm, with allegations made by the author that Gabon?s current president would not be Gabonese at all, but Biafra.
A statement made available to us by the Gabonese Embassy in France declares:
(Translated from French)
?The Gabonese authorities have decided to sue Pierre P?an and his editor for the publication of the book titled ?Nouvelles affaires africaines?. The Gabonese Republic cannot accept the highly defamatory and false remarks and made by Pierre P?an in the book. The obscure conditions, in which the book was written as well as the author?s intentions to be involved, according to him, in the next presidential elections in Gabon, reveal the ill intentions of the book. Due to the gravity of these actions, the Gabonese authorities have called on the competent French judicial authorities.?
The book has caused waves of protests in the country and has forced many dignitaries close to the Bongo Ondimba family and the family itself to come out to express their indignation and reaffirm that Ali Bongo Ondimba is in fact the son of former president Omar Bongo Ondimba.
According to various sources, Pierre P?an had resorted to blackmail, demanding 7 billion CFA Francs as well as a high level job for a friend of his in Gabon to stop the publication, however, when the Gabonese authorities refused, he went on to publish is work.
