Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, Chairman of the Ghacem Cement Foundation, has disclosed that the foundation has since its establishment 11 years ago assisted rural or needy communities country-wide with free bags of cement at a market value of more than GH?6million to rehabilitate or complete infrastructure in the education and health sector.
According to him, activities of the Ghacem Cement Foundation form an essential element of Ghacem Limited?s Corporate Social Responsibility, which is aimed at assisting deprived communities to improve their health and educational infrastructure.
Nana Prah Agyensaim VI was speaking in Takoradi at a function where beneficiaries of this year?s Ghacem Cement Foundation free cement allocation scheme from the southern sector of the country were presented with donation letters for their free cement allocations.
The Western, Central, Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta Regions were the areas which formed part of the Southern Sector of the country that benefitted from the free cement under the Ghacem Cement Foundation, which is an annual benevolence from the leading cement manufacturer.
The Northern Sector, which consists of the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, will also receive its estimated allocation of free cement by the last quarter of the year.
Present at the ceremony were top Council Members of the GCF including the Secretary, Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, who is also the Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of Ghacem, and Professor Audrey Gadzekpo (Member). Also present was the Works Manager of the Ghacem Takoradi plant, Mr. Jorn Johansen, and the Western Regional Director of Education, Mr. Augustus Nii Lante Cleland.
Nana Prah Agyensaim VI stressed that adherence to the criteria for application is very crucial.
First and foremost, he noted, the free cement allocation is restricted to purposes of rehabilitating or completing an educational or health infrastructure located in rural, poor or very needy communities.
The requirements include an original letter from the Community or Head of institution, the Chief, Chairman of a Town Development Council, a Head Teacher or Head Master in an educational institution, or Doctor-in Charge or Medical Assistant, Administrator or Head Midwife in a health institution.
Each application is to be endorsed with a letter from the District Director of Education or Health, the DCE or any Senior Government Official, or Chairman of the Town Development Council or head of religious institution, pictures of existing structures to be rehabilitated, and have an indication of the time-frame for completion of the project after cement has been received for the purpose.
Nana Prah Agyensaim VI advised applicants to concentrate on one project at a time, for the foundation?s selection committee to appreciate exactly how many bags are genuinely required for a project.
