Ghana’s inflation drops in August

The inflation rate for Ghana declined 1.6 percentage points to 7.8 percent in August compared with the 9.4 percent recorded in July, the Ghana Statistical Service announced Wednesday.

“Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and narcotics was the key driver of inflation in August,” said Samuel Kobina Annim, government statistician, in a statement.

The non-food and alcoholic beverages group recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 7.4 percent in August, and the food and nonalcoholic beverages group recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 8.2 percent. Enditem
