Mozambican Defense and Security Forces (FDS) have reintroduced the methods of escorting passenger buses and private cars and increased patrols to counter the recent wave of armed attacks in the central region of the country, reported by the national radio station RM on Thursday.
According to RM, the information was advanced by Interior Minister Basilio Monteiro, after he visited several positions of the FDS in Sofala province.
“We have decided to increase motorized patrols throughout the National Highway Number 1 and other mixed tactical measures, which for convenience we will keep them a secret,” said Monteiro.
Attacks on vehicles in the central region have intensified as similar actions happen every week recently culminating in fatalities and destruction of motor vehicles.
“The strategy has the potential to ward off any threat and to avoid materializing the security risk in this region,” said the minister quoted by RM.
The government believed that for what have been mobilized it will promote total peace in the region, continued Monteiro, saying that “we are pursuing the criminals to the utmost depth in all directions they are likely to escape”. Enditem
