The latest Corruption Perception Index rankings by Transparency International positioned Namibia on number 45 out of 114.

Addressing his ministers in Windhoek on the occasion of the First Cabinet Meeting for 2016, Geingob said asset declaration by ministers contributed to Namibia’s rankings.
Last year, Geingob and his wife Monica Geingos declared their assets, while all ministers, deputy ministers and permanent secretaries were also asked to do the same.
He also said the cancellation of tenders that did not comply with due processes, and the halting of the mass housing initiative due to irregularities Namibia climbed 10 places on the Transparency International Index from position 55 to position 45.
“This means that Namibia is now perceived as the 45th least corrupt country on the planet,” he said.
Namibia has also asked all ministers to submit their plans of action for each year that will be used to measure performance.
“The release of performance agreements augurs well with our commitment towards transparency and was well received by most of the Namibian people and some in the international community,” he said.
Geingob also said ministers are obliged to start implementing their action plans from April 1 without failure. Enditem
