Several injured in rebel attack in eastern DR Congo

Several people were injured and goods of unknown value stolen on Tuesday when fighters of the Ugandan rebel group, Allied Democratic Forces, invaded Walese Vukutu village in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

“The assailants injured ten people using machetes and stole property,” Daniel Erabo, the civil society leader in the area told Xinhua.

“They came to the village through Madibe, Masome and Mapenzi localities with weapons and machetes, and they proceeded into residential areas where they took away animals, chicken and all the money they found in houses,” the civil society president added.

The people who resisted the looting of their goods were seriously injured by machetes.

Erabo said the attackers took advantage of the recent redeployment of DR Congo Armed Forces from the area to North Kivu province to carry out the attack.

He urged the Congolese military authorities as well as the UN Mission for Stabilization of Congo to redeploy troops to the area to protect the civilian population. Enditem
