Budding rapper, Wisa stunned patrons at the 2015 Decemba2Rememba musical concert organized by Accra-based Citi FM after he took out his manhood on stage and rubbed it behind his female dancer.

The artiste has renedered an unqualified apology to the general public and has subsequently released an apology song following tons of messages on social media platforms condemning his act.

As Wisa awaits his prosecution, my colleague, Maxwell Agbagba shares his opinion on the indecent exposure by the Ekiki Me hit maker.

I agree when you say we should cut Wisa some slack for showing his manhood to a live audience. I concur same on that score that we should get out of our over-sized priestly holier than thou cloaks and spare the young man the hypocrisy. But wait until you send your curious kids to what was supposed to be a family show and a parochial-seeking entertainer decides to despotically metamorphose the show into a live p0rn show, then you will hear the voices of the people you once tagged as hypocrites reverberate. Wait until a naked full-grown man decides to remove his P£NIS whilst dancing behind a gyrating woman live on stage in the presence of your 5year old kids then you will get the import of our rave and rants.

I am not an entertainment expert and will not pretend to pontificate on a subject matter I cannot boast of being a doyen. My instincts however tell me that publicity stunts must be measurable, and I do not need the certification of any of the mushroom media schools to know this trite knowledge. Publicity stunt must be custom-made and well-tailored to fit your audience. That single act must not hurt your corporate brand as an artiste, you must not press auto-pilot on your career button and plunge your budding career into complete oblivion. When that happens, it becomes sheer buffoonery and there is no two ways about the fact that it is stupid and lame.

My outrage rose to its dizzy heights and crescendo this morning. Wisa seem to be following the old, tainted, cracked and less dignifying template of getting fame and recognition, convincing us enough that his action was premeditated. Point one of that template states do something outrageous, secondly get Ghana Twitter to talk about you and Ghanaian bloggers writing about the act, thirdly go to both print and electronic media and apologise and lastly, crown that disgraceful pretentious act with a supposed remorseful song and yippee you are a star.
Wisa like the other guy, is also set to release an APOLOGY of an apology song, “I am sorry”. In his case he bruised us more by choosing not to be creative in that song. He lazily sings with his uninspiring and hoarse voice “everywhere I go people dey talk my matter, how many times do you want me to say I am sorry”.

But we can forgive Wisa, because there are no better examples on how to get cheap fame in this country. Maybe he should check out some publicity stunts from Google. Why were not in this country when a certain atiste took Charterhouse to the cleaners after an award show and insulted a recipient of the awards. Well we do not have short memories to forget how he even went a step further to desecrate the very channel that gave him life with his foul, stinking lyrics in a bid to hit hard at the other artiste. Lo and behold, he became a demigod raking in with both hands the full benefits of that singular reprehensible act. If you did it for the other guy, I am sure you will want to to do it for Wisa too.

What the dude did smacks of the “get-rich guick” attitude by lot of us young people. The end we always want to justify the means. The unquenchable thirst for fame from some of our wannabes must be carefully tamed and nurtured for the appointed period.
English model Kelly Brook, Victoria Beckham, Nicky Hilton, Chrissy Teigen, Paris Hilton, Emma Stone, Scout Willis all suffered wardrobe malfunction this year but our compatriot Wisa suffered “Brain Malfunction” on stage and there is no better way to put it. Damn it!!!
