Family members say Tina Eku-Joshua showed no signs of depression

A housewife, Tina Eku-Joshua, on Tuesday, allegedly stabbed herself to death at Sabon-Pegi area of Shabu, Lafia-North Development Area, in Nasarawa State.
Family members of the victim have expressed shock at the development. Akimi Yamusa, the sister to the deceased’s husband, said that late Eku was sound and healthy before she allegedly committed the suicide.
“When I entered the compound, she was not at home,” she said. “I asked her husband who said she had gone out. Shortly after, she returned and we greeted and she told us that she wanted to take her bath.”
She further said that the deceased secretly went to the bathroom with a knife and used it to stab herself on the stomach.
The junior sister to the deceased, who gave her name as Abigail, said she was sleeping when Yamusa woke her up, crying and asked her to come and see her sister.
“On reaching the bathroom, I saw my sister lying down with knife inside her stomach; parts of her intestines were out in a pool of blood,” she said. “My sister got married to her husband just last month on April 12; I wonder what should be behind this kind of devilish acts.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Cornelious Ocholi, who confirmed the incident, urged the public not to allow their predicaments to weigh them down. “We should be contented with what God gives us as well as be patient,” he said.
He said that no arrests had been made, but that police officers have been deployed to the area to investigate the alleged suicide.
