The Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) has presented fourty (40)taxi?s to beneficiaries of the youth in transportation module which is expected to be launched this year.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Al-Hajj in Accra, Mr. Solomon Nii Afutu Quartey, Regional Director of GYEEDA said a monitoring team had been put in place to supervise the activities of beneficiaries in their line of businesses and ensure that the vehicles was used for the intended purposes.
Mr Quartey said GYEEDA focused on entrepreneurial development programmes to empower the youth, hence the change of name from National Youth Employment Programme to GYEEDA.
He said the transformation also aimed at coordinating all youth employment and youth entrepreneurial development activities with the public and private sectors partnership to ensure value delivery.
Mr Quartey added that GYEEDA vision is by way of developing the talents of youth who could not enter into higher institutions which introduced the Asongtaba Cottage Industry, a private company which specializes in creating job opportunities for the youth in the field of dressmaking and creative arts and invention have been made to add lather wears into the module.
He hinted that 1,300 youth graduated this year in the Greater Accra Region which formed part of the 7,134 youth who formed the last batch of trainees who underwent training in ICT for six months in introduction to computers, mobile phones soft and hardware, basic electronics and entrepreneurship skills.
Mr.Afutu said he disagree with unemployment graduate?s association claiming that there is no job to do,for which he describe them as lazy graduates because more entrepreneurship skills projects which they themselves can come out with to support government better Ghana agenda.
?when we are in a country and we are saying that there is no job to do,I don?t understand most of our graduate because it is not always you should be thinking of white colour job but as a graduate someone completed in learn you have did some kind of research you can come out with something which that was what I challenge them on? he stressed.
He also commenting that GYEEDA focus is also on drop out which some of are into vocational and technical training to enable them get something to do.
