Five Turkish soldiers were killed and five others wounded in a regime artillery attack in Idlib of Syria, Turkey’s Defense Ministry said on Monday.

“As a result of the intense artillery shooting by the regime on Feb. 10, 2020, five of our heroes gunmen were martyred and five were wounded among the ones sent to the region in order to prevent conflicts, to ensure our border security, to prevent migration and human drama,” said the defense ministry in a written statement.

Turkish army responded to the regime attack, said the ministry.

“The targets determined in the region were immediately intensely fired with our fire support vehicles, the necessary response was given, the targets were destroyed and the blood of our martyrs was not left on the ground. The developments are closely monitored and necessary measures are taken,” said the statement.

The regime artillery attacked the Turkish military convoy near Taftanaz town, local media reported.

A previous regime attack on Turkish soldiers killed eight personnel of the army in Idlib last week. Monday’s attack came as Russian and Turkish delegations were holding talks in capital Ankara on the issue of escalation tension in Idlib. Enditem
