The Member of Parliament for Obuasi West Kwaku Kwarteng has alleged that, Afriwave have been contracted by government to monitor revenue generated from international calls, a work already being done by Info Subah Solutions.
Kwaku Kwarteng also alleged that Communications Minister, Omane Boamah had ‘criminally’ engaged Afriwave Telcom Ltd to do the same job Subah is doing and is paying both with tax payers money.
The MP also claimed that the Minister through the National Communications Authority (NCA), directed telecom operators in the country to allow Afriwave access into their system and that such arrangements are against the laws of the Ghana because the contract with Subah has not yet ended.
Meanwhile, in a press release signed and issued by Donald Gwira, Director of Corporate Affairs for Afriwave, which is copied to New Ghana, Afriwave said, it took exception to the misinformation being put out by the MP and stated that, “Afriwave Telecom has not invoiced or been paid any money by the National Communications Authority for the monitoring of either international incoming or off-net interconnect telephone traffic. Therefore, there cannot be any duplication in payment as the MP wishes to suggest.”
The company however stressed that it will continue to work with all stakeholders as part of the transitional process to ensure that it is fully prepared to undertake the monitoring and validation of government revenues in accordance with Act 786 (International incoming traffic) and Act 864 (Communications Service Tax) when the existing contract expires in May 2016.
