Defending Middle weight and reigning Mr Africa Michael Antwi succeeded in his quest to disrupt the Mr Ghana show held at the RLG/Hathiramani Sports Hall in Accra last Saturday evening.
The beleaguered Kumasi-based body builder defied protocol, moved straight to the medal table, grabbed all the medals and walked away when the program had barely started, in protest of his disqualification.
But he did not succeed as the heavy security persons and other body builders pounced on him and convinced him to surrender the medals.
It took the well built men and the security details close to seven minutes to succeed in retrieving the medals.
Apparently, Antwi was disqualified on account that he appeared late for the pre judge session on Saturday morning.
Angry Antwi told DAILY GUIDE SPORTS after his ?action?, ?They just told me on arrival that you can?t compete. It?s true I came in late, but I pleaded with them and they allowed me for the pre-judge session, which qualifies me to defend my title.
?I am highly disappointed in the authorities. If they knew they would disqualify me, then they shouldn?t have allowed me for the pre judge session in the first place.
?I have invested so much in my body for this show. I have not drunk water for and eaten well for days because I wanted to meet the requirements of the show and to defend my title.
?They knew I would have won hands down. It is a calculated attempt to make sure nobody from Kumasi is crowned Mr Ghana, probably because of Kofi Salia?s issue.
?You know Salia (Asaase) is my mentor. He even told me not to compete because of the Association?s stand on barring three-time champions from competing.
?There is something wrong somewhere, the leadership of this Association should be changed. The leadership have taken the association as their bonafide property. It is ridiculous for the leadership to say that a competitor is disqualified if he wins it three times.
?I came in to defend my title to make Asaase proud, only to realize that I am disqualified, and I know they did so because of my relations with Asaase. I am bigger than this show,? Antwi said.
