Reports indicate that one person has died while many others have been injured in a shooting incident that occurred at the Ashanti Regional Office of the National Democratic Congress in Kumasi.

The injured, some of whom are reportedly in critical conditions, have been rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

The shooting incident is said to have occurred during a meeting of some of the national executive members and the Ashanti Regional NDC leadership in Kumasi, this morning.

An eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency at the party office that the meeting was attended by Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Chairman and Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary, as well as other high ranking officials of the Party, from the National Headquarters.

He said it all started when in the course of the meeting, a sound of the gunshot, said to have been fired by an unidentified person, was heard.

The eye-witness account said the bullet hit one person at short range and many others in a ripple effect.

He said there was pandemonium as everyone started running for cover, bringing the meeting to an abrupt end.

At the time of filing this report, calm had returned to the place with the deployment of armed policemen keeping guard and the injured conveyed to hospital.

No arrest had been made so far, but the police are patrolling the area and conducting investigations.
