The ?Mbofra Daakyi? Group, an environmental cleanliness youth group at Sankor, a suburb of Winneba, also took part in the exercise.
Led by the Assemblywoman, Madam Elizabeth Awo Sena, the residents desilted two main gutters at Winneba-Junction that had been choked with sachet water bags and other garbage.
The residents also swept the streets and weeded the area.
Addressing the people later, Madam Sena commended the people for their communal spirit, and urged them to keep it up.
She suggested to government to make holidays compulsory clean-up days, to ensure regular environmental cleanliness.
This, she said, would prevent the youth from attending beach resorts to engage in immoral activities that could harm them.
She called on religious leaders to use the pulpit to preach about environmental sanitation and personal hygiene, to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
The Assemblywoman appealed to the Effutu Municipal Assembly and the Central Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) to construct pave blocks at the Winneba-Junction lorry park.
She also appealed to the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO), and the Volta River Authority (VRA), to re-locate residents under the high tension to the Winneba-Junction Sub-station.
This, she said, would help reduce health risks of the residents in case of a fire outbreak.
The Assemblywoman appealed to Non-Governmental Organizations and corporate bodies to organize free medical screening exercises for the residents, since most of them inhaled smoke during a fire outbreak at the CRIDCO transformer and Panel control at the Winneba Sub-station recently.
