The Paramount Chief of the Awudome traditional area, Togbe Adae Kwesi Sekpe XII in the Ho West District of the Volta region was conspicuous missing at the area?s annual Yam Festival held last weekend.
His absence has raised lots of concerns as to whether he is still the paramount chief of the area, which has seven divisions with its paramountcy at Anyirawase.
Despite the paramount chief?s claim that he is still the chief of the area, his divisional chiefs and subjects who organized the festival without him maintained that they did not recognize him as their paramount chief.
The festival which was held at Awudome-Avenui was themed ?Uniting the People of Awudome for Development?. The Senior Divisional Chief, Togbe Adza Gbelkui Akordake XI of Avenui who superintended the festival, reiterated that Togbe Adae Kwasi Sekpe XII was no more recognized as the paramount chief.
He said, ?Sekpe or Glay John was distooled in 2005 and was no more recognized by the chiefs of Awudome. Awudome lacks so many developments because of his untoward behavior and the people of Awudome cannot sit on the fence unconcerned that is why the Senior Divisional Chief and the rest of the council members like Tsito, Tsibu and Bame are trying to unite the people of Awudome for development.?
Togbe Akordake XI therefore appealed to the Regional House of Chiefs, especially the President, Togbe Afede XIV to facilitate the withdrawal of the recognition of Togbe Sepke as Paramount Chief of Awudome.

However some communities lacked portable water, modern toilet facilities and drains. He also complained about inadequate accommodation for teachers which was affecting the performance of students in the area. He added that the MP, government and other benevolent organizations should assist in providing accommodation for teachers and amenities the area lacked.
He also wondered why ICT was being taught only theoretically and called on the Ghana Investment for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) to provide schools in the area with computers.
Togbe Gugu VI, Kpele-Adeta, from the Republic of Togo, the ancestral home of the people of Awudome, commended the chiefs and people for their unity and urged them to maintain it. He also called for peace especially during the general elections, and unity among states within the West African sub region.
The New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate of the area, Lawyer Ernest Gaewu assured that people that just as ?the NPP was able to make the National Health Insurance a reality despite doubts and condemnation, the free Senior High School education will also be instituted when voted into power.?
