“Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence wins championships” Michael Jordan

The maiden edition of the Binduri Basic Excellence Awards took place at Tony’s Restaurant at Bazua on Saturday, 23rd December, 2017.

The annual performances of students at the BECE and WASSCE from the Binduri District have been bad and not encouraging, so we decided to help remedy the situation in our own little way by organizing an annual award event to give out some awards to hardworking and excellent students to serve as motivators to upcoming ones.

The event hall was filled up with dignitaries from Ghana Education Service and a number of teachers from the various schools in the district. In the hall were also students from the various schools who had awards to pick up. Some media houses were also present.

There were some great musical performances by a traditional ‘googi’ music group to the delight of many.

Giving Back to Society

“If you wait until you can do everything for everybody, instead of something for somebody, you’ll end up not doing nothing for nobody.” ~ Malcom Bane

The idea of giving awards to individual Junior High School Students for outstanding performances after an annual quiz was brought up by Prosper Ngoswini.

Since 2013, the Bazua Youth Association (BAYA), which we are part of has been organizing various activities, including a quiz for all Junior High Schools in the Binduri District during its Annual Week Celebrations. BAYA gives awards to deserving schools for outstanding performances in the activities.

Additionally, three of us teamed up to add to those awards so that individual students who represented their schools in the quiz and also best students who had just passed out of the BECE in the preceding sitting would be awarded too. So, three of us decided to pull their own resources together and to source for support to give awards to the individual students who deserved to be awarded after the annual week quiz.

More importantly, it is the aim of these three that giving awards to the students would help motivate, encourage and spearhead them to do better at the Basic Education Certificate of Examination(BECE) and to go further to do well at the Senior High School level or the West African Senior Secondary Certificate of Examination (WASSCE).

It is also the aim of the awards team to contribute to the development of education in the district and our contribution to the institutions and of knowledge and learning.

Participated Schools
All the Junior High Schools in the district both public and private schools, which the total number is about twenty-six (26) were invited as done annually since 2013, but this year, about seventeen (17) schools participated in the quiz.
After the quiz, the first three schools were announced and it emerged that Bazua Christian Academy topped the quiz and came first, Gumyoko Junior High School came second and Bazua Roman Catholic Junior High School came third and these schools were given awards by BAYA. So, the Binduri Basic Excellence Awards Team also added some awards for the students who represented these schools.
