The Brong Ahafo Regional Referees Association Chairman SY Barimah has resigned from his post with immediate effect after he was accused of taking bribes.
Barimah announced his exit at a press conference in Berekum on Wednesday.
Some third-tier clubs playing in the promotional play-offs in the region levelled bribery and corruption allegations against him.
Owner of Debiso Mighty Royals is alleged to have paid an amount of GH¢ 1,000 (US$ 550) to him to aid their qualification to the national second-tier league (Division One League).“I have had enough of these allegations for the past seasons and I believe it should end here for the sake of everybody in the region,” Barimah said at a press conference.“I took the money from the club owner to prepare accommodation and food for the club and not to induce me or whatsoever.“But now issues have been twisted in a different way which wouldn’t help anybody.“This is not the first time I have been accused of bribery and it is supposed to end here finally so I have decided to put down my job.”
