Commission members sitting on day-three

LATEST REVELATION from the Commission of Inquiry probing Ghana?s failure and other scandalous incidents at the 2014 World Cup is that each member of the Black Stars management committee of seven pocketed $82,500 as appearance fee.

Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) Alhaji Abdulai Yakubu, in his submission yesterday, told the Commission that the said amount was arrived at after Cabinet?s approval.

And like the 23-man playing body, each member of the technical team received a mouth-watering amount of $100,000 as appearance fee, but issues of per diem did not come up.

Responding to queries by Justice Dzamefe, chairman of the three-member Commission, on why the non playing body (technical team) received the same amount as the players, he said, ?My Lord I can?t answer that.?

Mr Yakubu hinted that two separate budgets were prepared for the Brazil World Cup ? one from government and the other from the Ghana Football Association.

He revealed that the one from government took care of the per diems of players, technical and other officials. It also took care of winning bonuses, imprest for staff contracted by government and other miscellaneous items.

The Chief Director is expected to appear before the Commission at its next sitting this Monday to provide answers to further questions.

However, he is to appear before the Commission in camera for further interrogation and clarification on certain issues before Monday?s sitting.

The Commission announced it is likely that former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, a Ghana Football Association (GFA) representative, chairman of the World Cup Committee Fred Darko and members of other Sub-Committees will appear before it.
