Cuba’s electoral authority held a drill to test its capability of organization and logistics on Sunday, one week before nationwide local elections in the island country. elections
The rehearsal involved over 24,600 constituencies across the nation, with the participation of their directors, support staff and members of the voting boards.
Alina Balseiro, president of the National Electoral Commission, said the drill was aimed at checking in a real way what could happen when 8.7 million voters are convened to go to ballot stations and elect municipal deputies for a period of two and a half years.
On April 19, more than 27,000 candidates will run for members of local assemblies in Cuba.
Cuba’s last local elections took place in October-November 2012, with the participation of 32,000 candidates and 94 percent of the eligible voters, according to official figures. Enditem
