A panel of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) will be in Tanzania from February 24 to March 15 this year to review the country’s performance in terms of its commitments to the governance process.
A press statement issued in Dar es Salaam on Monday by the Executive Secretary of the APRM Tanzania, Ms Rehema Twalib, indicated that the panel, led by African eminent persons, would meet various stakeholders, including government leaders.
“The coming of the Country Review Mission (CRM) to Tanzania will mark a significant step in the country’s commitment to the APRM process,” said the statement, adding that the panel will be led by Barrister Akere Muna from Cameroun.
APRM is a mechanism of the African Union formed in 2002 with the mandate of assessing governance among member states through involving the people to air their voices.
Tanzania joined the mechanism in 2004 and the first country report on governance was completed in 2009 and updated in 2011, containing the voices of the people in areas of democracy, economic management, corporate governance and socio-economic affairs.
Tanzania being among 32 out of 54 African countries which have acceded to the mechanism looks forward to attain more accelerated political stability, high economic growth and strengthened good governance, conducive to attract more investment, upon successfully implementing the programme whose reports are issued every after four years.
