“I know you are anxious to see me play, but I ask you for patience because it’s going to be my first tournament and part of the rehabilitation is to return to the circuit,” the 27-year-old said, adding that “the uncertainty and bad things I have lived through even made me think of giving up.”

Del Potro’s return after a third wrist operation since first getting hurt in 2010 will come at a small venue where he won a title five years ago; the Delray Beach tournament begins on February 15.
The player last competed seriously in 2015 in Sydney, reaching the quarter-finals. He then stopped again due to his problem, attempting a comeback in Miami last March where he lost in the first round to Canadian Vasek Pospisil.
“I was waiting a long time to announce that I will return to play in Delray Beach on February 15,” Del Potro said on a Facebook video. “I’m able to confirm that I will play again and I wanted to share [it] with you. It is a great joy to play after all these really complicated mood swings and moments.”
Del Potro is currently without a coach after parting with longtime mentor Franco Davin last summer.
The Argentine is hoping for the best but setting no goals for his return: “I [hope] my return will be successful, for me it is already [successful] being able to step on a tennis court.”
