Mr T. Ramarao, General Manager (GM) of DCGL, said although different brands of cement are being imported into the country the company is convinced of the quality of cement they produce.
Mr Ramarao said the company’s 42.5 grade cement contains more clinker, the main component of cement, explaining that although Diamond Cement uses a higher percentage of clinker, they still sell their brand at the same price as other brands producing lesser grade cement.
“I am disappointed to note the pervasion of inferior imported cement products on the market luring customers with promises of lower prices”, he said.
The GM said the secret to Diamond Cement’s success as a company is the quality of cement they produce as well as the easily accessible distribution and sales of their product.
Placing emphasis on the company’s successful operations in the country, the GM said DCGL is highly rated by the Environmental Protection Agency’s AKOBEN ratings on safety and pollution.
He said out of the 100 companies reviewed and rated in Ghana, Diamond Cement was among the only two companies that had a ‘Green’ rating, signifying ‘very good performance’ – this he said indicates that the company applies best practices in its operations.
Mr Ramarao said the company’s dynamic pollution control measures, adherence to legal requirements, hazardous and toxic waste management, have added to its credible claim of quality, making it the only cement manufacturing company in Ghana that has consistently remained ‘Green’ rated in its operations.
Mr Alladu Komlan, Quality Control Officer of Diamond Cement, told the GNA in an interview that the factory does an inspection, sampling and testing of the ambient air quality, compressive strength, humidity and temperature of cement before any production is done on a large scale.
He said: “We know how to produce quality cement for our people because quality is our major concern as we support the building industry of Ghana”.
Mr Komlan said the company uses more clinker in their cement mix to strengthen their product resulting in cement suitable for all kinds of buildings, adding that the public need to beware that not all grades of cement can be used for every type of construction.
