An outbreak of diarrhea has killed 14 people in central and southern Somalia this week, a regional official said on Thursday.
HirShabelle state health minister Abdi Mo’lim Mohamed told reporters that the waterborne disease has affected many towns in the state.
“The disease first broke out in Beled weyne in Hiran region, central Somalia and it then spread to Jowhar town in Middle Shabelle region causing deaths,” Mohamed said.
The outbreak follows major flooding in Somalia’s central and southern regions in November in 2019, which displaced over 300,000 people.
