Dummy candidate nominated in UK by-election

Former President of The Oxford Union nominates as dummy candidate in UK by-election to end forced psychiatric treatment

Candidate campaigning for a very important right ‘for what it means to be human’ nominates in Richmond Park by-election asking for zero votes.

David used to work in an institution abroad. He is currently working on a project advocating reductions in the use of psychiatric treatments and use of alternatives to managing challenging behaviour in institutional settings.

He has been asking MPs in Parliament over recent years for change. He is frustrated that allowing forced treatment in the UK allows other countries to justify forced treatment.

He is calling for individuals to be allowed to retreat to a room where they are free from psychiatric treatment and that they should have the ultimate right to refuse treatment even if they are deemed to lack capacity.

He has said that if a major country bans forced treatment before the UK and before the by election on the 1 December he will give up his place in the UK to an asylum seeker and live abroad for the next ten years.

David was President of the Oxford Union (https://www.balliol.ox.ac.uk/alumni-and-friends/floreat-domus/2007/president-of-the-oxford-union) and President of the Oxford University European Affairs Society. Brexit is a topic that is likely to be hotly debated in the by election.
