EC Workers To Lay Down Tools Over Poor Salaries

Workers of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana have threatened to lay down their tools and embark on a nationwide strike if their "poor salaries" are not improved soonest.

The senior staff met on January 19, 2016 and agreed on embarking on an unending industrial actions as part of efforts in pushing their demand through for solutions.

According to them, they have already exhausted all avenues in getting their grievances resolved and that the only thing they have left is for them to strike by February 22, 2016.

They hinted that they would begin wearing red on February 8 and start a sit-down strike on February 15 ahead of the nationwide strike on 22nd.

The Chair person of the EC, Charlotte Osei has received a petition from the aggrieved workers which was signed by 20 senior executives, accusing the EC management of window-dressing their concerns.

They minced no word in stating that their poor salaries make them susceptible to corruption by politicians, who may be up to no good and hence warned ahead of the polls on November 7, 2016.
