A Deputy Minister of Finance, Mona Quartey, says Ghana?s economic difficulties will only ease after the three-year extended credit facility from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

She, therefore, called on all to make adjustments and help government in abiding by the conditionalities to make the programme successful.

Ghana reached a $918 million agreement with the Fund after a worsening tide of the economy.

A first tranche of $114 million was released to the Central Bank as part of the programme.

However, industry has complained that high interest rates, among other factors, are increasing costs of doing business.

But speaking on TV3?s Agenda on Thursday, May 21, Ms Quartey emphasized that government is putting in measures to bring the economy back on track.

Among the measures, she cited, is the latest upward price review of petroleum products by 9 per cent, a move which other panelists condemned.

Professor Cletus Dordunoo, a policy analyst, insisted government must build public confidence by religiously abiding by the automatic adjustment formula (AAF) before making any attempt of veering off it.

?Power for fun?

Seth Adjei Baah, the National President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was concerned government has ignored the private sector in most of its policies.

He maintained that industries should have been exempted from the ongoing power rationing programme in order to still keep the Ghanaian economy running.

He expressed worry how government could get power ?for fun? during the Easter festivities but not for industries.
