Ellembelle fire station commissioned

Dr Alfred Brown Gaise, the National Director of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has cautioned Ghanaians of the need to protect themselves and the environment from acts that could be detrimental to their safety.

He said, fire is not a respecter of persons adding that , where there is air, heat and oxygen, fire is bound to occur.

He said it is only through good environmental practices that life and properties could be preserved.

Dr Gaise was speaking at the inaugural ceremony to usher in the Ellembelle District Fire Station in the Western Region.

The Fire station with a fire tender adds to the number of stations strategically put up by the government to save lives and property.

The National Director of GNFS cautioned against the use of matches, candle and other highly inflammable substances placed in the hands of children.

Mr Emmanuel Armah-Buah, Minister of Energy and Member of Parliament for the Area said the government is conscious of the well-being of the citizenry and would therefore work hard to better their lives.

He said the country has chalked out real progress, and government would continue to engage in social intervention programmes, aimed at improving and advancing the developmental pace.

On fire safety, the Energy Minister said government has procured 24 more fire engines for distribution.

Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Regional Minister said so far 16 districts have been assisted with fire stations unlike 2010 when there were only four fire stations.

He entreated the district personnel to make good use of national assets and resources adding: “Let’s try and use national resources for development rather than paying unwarranted allowances.”

Dr George Sipa Yankey, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas Company said the project is very key to the safety and security of the people due to the number of high risks businesses in the area.

Mr Daniel Eshun, Ellembelle District Chief Executive said the district had witnessed great transformation over the last eight years.
