Ghana international defender Jonathan Mensah helped his Evian TG side to secure their top-flight status at the expense of Jordan Ayew?s Sochaux after hammering them 3-0 in a decider on Saturday night.

The clash at the Stade Auguste-Bonal was the decider on which last club join Ajaccio and Valenciennes to return to the Ligue 2 and Evian powerfully bundled Sochaux out of the top-flight completely outclassing them at their own backyard to send agonising feeling at Montbelliard.

With just a single point separating Sochaux in 18th from Evian in 17th, both teams knew that victory in Montb?liard would guarantee their Ligue 1 survival and relegate their opponents. With the stakes so high, FCSM coach Herv? Renard and opposite number Pascal Dupraz had exchanged barbs in the build-up to the game, and the ill-feeling spilled over into the early exchanges on Saturday evening.

With both Jordan Ayew and Jonathan Mensah starting and finishing the tie on an emotional final day, Evian ensured victory and it was Wass who started it for Evian and later hit a double.

Modou Sougou whipped a cross in from the right-hand side and Wass checked his run before unleashing an unstoppable overheadkick into the far bottom corner for his eighth.

Wass turned provider and sent an in-swinging corner which took a deflection before finding Angoula at the back-post who prodded home for 2-0.

Jordan could have halve the deficit for Sochaux in the 62nd minute. The on-loan Marseille star linked up well with Emmanuel Mayuka and Jordan punched the returned pass with a measure of precision but his effort missed narrowly.

Evian added the third and extinguished every last Sochaux hope of staging a comeback.

The two players will join the Ghana camp next week to begin preparations for the 2014 World Cup.
