The ex-President of GREDA, Dr. Alex Tweneboah has been cited for SIM box fraud.
In an operation to curb the illegal practice, the Telecom Fraud Task Force today 26 January 2015, paraded six illegal SIM box operators who were arrested in Accra during a nationwide operation to haunt for illegal activities of Sim box operators of which thousands of SIM cards were recovered.
On January 15, 2015, the Task Force traced and seized one SIM BOX with a 64-slot SIM server, 4G Internet Modem, 1 laptop computer and mini Antennas from a residence at Batsonaa, Manet area. Three perosns namely, Emmanuel Kofi Essilfie, Edmond Essilfie and Kwaku Appiah were arrested but they denied knowledge of the gadgets and mentioned Alexander Tweneboah, owner of the house as the owner of the equipment.
Alexander Tweneboah was subsequently traced and arrested. He claimed ownership of the equipment and admitted using them to terminate international calls illegally.

The ex-President is among other culprits who are currently in police grips.
The culprits include, Ebeneser Boateng,Victor Owusu, Kwadjo Asare, Emmanuel Kofi Essilfie, Edmond Essilfie, Kweku Appiah, Alvin Habib, Francis Abbey, David Ayitsi, Daniel Nehme a Lebanese. The arrest was made in Koforidua, Accra, Batsoona, Kumasi and Tema.
Some of the items retrieved from the operation include, SIM box equipments, SIM cards from the various telecommunication networks, computers, laptops, heavy duty batteries, internal antennas, ACP battery backup and internet routers.
In a matter of 5 to 7 months, Ghana lost USD 33,592,320.00 in revenue, calling on landlords to flush out tenants who use their premises for such acts.
Two of the victims are however on the run.
