The Fate Of Nigeria’s Growing Democracy

The forth coming general election will go along way to define the current state of mind of Nigerians as it relates with our growing democracy. For close observers in Akwa Ibom, the internal fracas in the ruling People’s Democratic Party has given wings to other political parties in the state to fly.

unnamed (2)The member representing Nsit Ubium state constituency in Akwa Ibom House of Assembly & Flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party for the same seat in the forthcoming elections has a lot of work to do if he must retain his seat in the state parliament.

It is no more news that majority of the voters are illiterates in rural areas, I will not be surprised to hear or see that some of Onofiok’s supporters out of grieve or ignorance, or will mistakenly vote for the opposition, following their relation and loyalty to Umana Okon Umana, the former Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government who hails from Onofiok’s local government & constituency.

The mountain before Onofiok Luke is the choice of which party to vote in the Gubernatorial & House of Assemble Elections taking place the same day.
UOU’s personality and charisma even if not strong enough to capture the length and breath of Akwa Ibom, but will definitely ‘sweep’ Nsit Ubium with his broom revolution. Onofiok Luke is of course UOU’s prodigy, and some people in these rural areas might think that he decamped with UOU to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

This presents a high mountain before Onofiok to climb, and I am sure he knows his onions. A lot of familiarization tour is expected of him. He has to educate the people on how to vote, to keep him n office to continue his good works and effective representation.
