Fayemi says the state has made significant progress despite obstacles

The Federal Government owes Ekiti State N6 billion for the construction of some federal road projects, Governor Kayode Fayemi said on Tuesday while addressing the people in Ado-Ekiti as part of events to round off the second anniversary of his administration.

Fayemi said the state was now ranked the least in terms of maternal and child mortality.

He said the state had the highest life expectancy in Nigeria, owing to his ability to provide quality leadership that was devoid of rancour and the unnecessary political upheavals that dogged the state in the past.

The governor said that he had been able to give the people hope in spite of a N40 billion debt and uncompleted projects his administration inherited from the past administration.

He assured the people that 20 ongoing road projects and the urban renewal programme he initiated to increase the level of public utilities would be completed by December.

He said his harmonious working relationship with the state legislature had ensured the passage of 32 bills into law to provide legal frameworks to enhance good governance in the state.

He named some of the laws to include the Bond Law, Fiscal Responsibility Law, Social Security Benefit Law and Gender-based Violence Prohibition Law.

Meanwhile, the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has described the establishment of the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency and Vigilance Group of Nigeria as indirect introduction of state police.

The party also said the projects executed by the Fayemi administration as deceptive and misleading, adding that the proposed N2.5 billion Governor?s Lodge and office were misplaced priorities targeted toward boosting the financial status of some people close to the government.

Addressing a news conference in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, PDP Publicity Secretary, Kola Oluwawole, alleged that Fayemi established the para-military organisations for ulterior motives and not for security purposes.

The PDP alleged that all the 103km road projects claimed to have been constructed by Fayemi were mere renovations and “surface dressing”.

Oluwawole urged the governor to stop deluding Ekiti people by claiming undeserved glory.

He, however, commended Fayemi for renovating some roads in the state but added that he should be bold enough to disclose to Ekiti people that those projects began under the last PDP-administration in the state.
