Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has opened a new maternal and child health facility in Juapong, marking a significant boost to healthcare services in his North Tongu constituency.

The clinic, built through a partnership with the Engage Africa Now Foundation, was completed and fully equipped within six months. Ablakwa personally funded all medical equipment needed to make the facility operational immediately.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the MP highlighted the clinic’s potential impact on local healthcare. The facility can handle up to 3,000 safe deliveries annually, addressing critical gaps in maternal health services across the region.

The opening comes as part of broader development initiatives planned for North Tongu. Ablakwa announced that several major infrastructure projects have received approval, including road construction, bridge building, and educational facility improvements. New teachers’ accommodation is also among the approved developments.

In another constituency initiative, all Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates in North Tongu will receive free access to their results. Ablakwa’s office will cover the associated costs, removing financial barriers for students and families.

The Foreign Minister emphasized his commitment to balancing national duties with local development needs. Despite his extensive international and governmental responsibilities, he assured residents that more projects would follow under the current administration’s development agenda.

Local residents welcomed the new healthcare facility, which addresses long-standing challenges in accessing quality maternal and child health services. The clinic represents part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Ghana’s primary healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

The partnership model used for this project, combining private foundation support with individual contributions, demonstrates alternative approaches to community development funding. This collaboration could serve as a template for similar initiatives across other constituencies.
