Fred Yaw Sarpong of?Ghana?s First and only Free Newspaper: The Daily Express, over the weekend saw two of his stories published in the paper awarded at the 2014 IFEJ-Flamingo Awards for business and financial journalism nationwide.

The Senior Business Reporter was adjudged the Best Journalist in Rural banking/ microfinance as well as Best Journalist in Business in Health at the awards ceremony held at the World Bank?s offices in Accra.

The two articles which won the awards and received high commendation from the Jury and organizers were titled ??; Fake condom importer unmasked ??and? Micro Finance companies milking customers.

The award ceremony was organised in partnership with the World Bank, Enterprise Life Insurance, adb Bank and GIZ/SECO under the theme: ?Taking Business and Financial Journalism to higher level.?

It was graced by the World Bank?s Country Director for Ghana, ?Liberia and Sierra Leone, Yusupha B. Crookes as well as Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, ?Acting Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).

Supreme Court Judge, Justice William Atuguba, who was the guest speaker at the ceremony congratulated all the award winners and advised journalists to be very professional and uphold the ethical values of the profession.

The Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ), Ghana in August this year, launched the IFEJ-Flamingo Award to reward business and financial journalists in the country.

The award seeks to deepen the level of financial journalism in the country while rewarding outstanding financial journalists based on their published works.Fred Yaw Sarpong

Felix Dela Klutse, the Managing Editor of Business Day newspaper was adjudged the 2014 Best Business and Financial Journalist of the Year.

Apart from being the overall winner, Mr Klutse also swept two other awards namely the Best Reporter in Agribusiness and the Best Reporter in Finance.

For his prize, Mr Klutse would be fully sponsored by the World Bank Group to attend the World Bank/IMF Spring meetings in Washington DC, USA, in 2015 in addition to an iPad, among other things.

Samuel Doe Ablordeppey?of the Graphic Business took home the?Best in Development Issues?while Charles Benoni Okine also of the Graphic Business was adjudged? the Best in ICT reporting. Edward Nyarko-(GBC 24) was also honoured.
